Artwork guide

Send files that print right the first time

Every file gets a free prepress check before production, so nothing here is a hard rule. Following it just means fewer back-and-forth messages.

File formats

  • Best: vector PDF, AI or EPS with fonts outlined.
  • Also fine: high-resolution PNG, JPG or TIFF.
  • Not ideal: Word, PowerPoint or screenshots. Send them anyway and we will tell you what can be done.

Resolution

  • Aim for 100–150 DPI at the final printed size for banners and large signs.
  • Small signs viewed up close (under 2 ft) look best at 300 DPI.
  • Use the resolution checker tool if you are not sure an image is big enough.

Size and bleed

  • Build the file at the finished size, or to scale (for example 1:10).
  • Add 0.5 in bleed on each edge for banners and 0.125 in for rigid signs.
  • Keep text and logos at least 1 in inside the edge, clear of grommets and hems.

Colour and fonts

  • CMYK colour mode gives the most predictable result.
  • Include Pantone references if brand colours must match exactly.
  • Outline or embed fonts so the text prints the way you designed it.
